While a uniform is not required to join Scouting, the uniform plays an important part as one of the "Methods" of Scouting. A scouting uniform represents commitment, identifying the scout with a set of principles and serving as a reminder to live up to them. The uniform represents equality: binding a group of scouts together whatever their backgrounds. A scout in a neat, tidy uniform makes a good first impression, standing out as a good and positive force -- here the uniform serves as a form of postive identification. Finally, the uniform is a place where the scout displays his achievements -- ranks, awards, and activities -- helping the Scout to take pride in his accomplishments. Pack 166 strongly encourages scouts to wear full "Class A" uniforms.“Class A” uniforms are worn to den meetings, pack meetings, and other “official” events such as the annual “Report to State” parage. Class A uniform components can be purchased at the Capitol Area Council Scout Shop (directions below). Uniform parts can sometimes be found at Goodwill shops and online at sites such as EBay. If you cannot afford a uniform , please talk to your den or pack leaders -- financial assistance may be available. “Class A” Uniform Part Checklist Cub Scout (Blue) or Webelos (Tan) Shirt – short sleeved Instructions for sewing patches and other insignia on the Class A uniform are in the back of the Tiger, Wolf, Bear and Webelos handbook(s). Class B uniforms are a (Red) Pack T-shirt over shorts or jeans. Class B uniforms are worn for informal events such as camp outs or hikes. Class B pack T-shirts may be purchased at Pack meetings. Cub Scouts in Pack 166 transition from the Cub Scout Uniform to the Webelos / Boy Scout Khaki uniform after they earn their Webelos rank -- in late March or early April of their 4th grade year.
